Open House and Party at The Studio
Story by Antonia
Pavia
It was a night of
painting and partying when The New Studio for the Art of
Painted Finishes held its annual holiday party and art show
December 8th at the school’s location in an Upper East Side
townhouse.
Some 40 students,
teachers and friends gathered to sample wine and cheese and
to see examples of a range of finishes taught at the studio.
These included tortoise, malachite, lapis, marble, gilding
and decoupage applied to a variety of frames, boxes, trays,
wastepaper baskets and tables. The evening was a special
occasion for members of The New Studio because it marked the
first time almost all the school’s finishes were exhibited
together.
In addition,
teachers Antonia Pavia and Yaelle Yoran did on-the-spot
demonstrations of techniques for malachite, milk paint,
vinegar paint and egg tempera as well as showing how to
transfer patterns onto an object and how to paint and shade
the designs.
